Of course, empty buildings that don't get used are never a good idea... but it sure is pretty!

Pink ladyslipper
We have several blooming in the woods behind our house - in fact we are seeing more blooms every year.

White Double
I love this tulip. Don't know what it is called though. It was supposed to be 'White Dream' but that is a large triumph and this is definitely not! It is actually one of the flowers that a photograph just cannot do justice. It is planted with my black parrot.

Surprise iris
This is supposed to be 'Orange Harvest', which would have been nice but this is also a pleasant surprise. Now I just have to figure out its name!

Mandarin lights
azalea x Mandarin Lights |
This azalea was planted mid-summer 2010 and we're seeing it bloom for the first time. All the blooms are only about a foot and a half off the ground so we'd certainly like to see it get taller next year. It's in the east front garden.

White lights
azalea 'White Lights' |
This azalea was my first shrub purchase, that first summer we started gardening. After a brief unsuccessful stint next to the back deck, Kelly moved it in front of the front deck. It's grown a bunch a just full of blooms this year.

German Purple
Isn't that odd. Your German Purple is way more burgundy than mine. I wonder if that is a soil trick. Yours looks closer to the colour I expect Midnight Oil to be.

How Sad.
More hope for next year. My 'Mickey Mouse' survived the late fall move but the blooms are really, really short.
Unknown iris in the 'henge
It looks like it's hugging a rock because it is. When I went back to take this shot the only bloom open so far had broken over in the heavy rain earlier. Not sure if a sideways shot is better than upside down :)

Along the fence
I spent the weekend really enjoying the garden and even got some stuff done. I think the plants might actually have a head start on the bugs this year because everything is big and beautiful. (Well, except we are squishing lily beetles like crazy.)

Hannah - waiting or hunting?
Yes, our mower is out of commission. We are waiting on parts that, we are told, will be here a week from today. It is driving Miles crazy that he can't mow but the animals love it. Hannah sat on the dog path here for over an hour today. Just sitting. I couldn't decide if there was a mouse in that tall patch or not. If there was, she didn't go for it. Which is very un-Hannah-like! If she was waiting, I am not sure what she was waiting for but it was totally entertaining to watch Penny charge down that path and leap over Hannah. Hopefully the parts will be here before the grass starts swallowing larger animals.
Mom Robin
I'm sure she was shivering in fright the whole time I was near her so I got in and got out fast. This nest is only 4 feet off the ground and I'm surprised the neighbourhood cats haven't found it. Hopefully she'll be able to hold them off till her eggs hatch.

Gavota
The patch I thought was Davenport turned out to be Gavota. I haven't found anywhere near all the tulips and there are two blooming that I need to look up because I can't identify them off the top of my head. But I am super happy to see these!

cinnamon fern |
Kelly transplanted lots of ferns into the 'henge last year and they are all coming back beautifully this year. I think it's going to be pretty impressive-looking with all the ferns among the rocks.

Salmon Impression
These were moved from the bird sanctuary to the back firepit garden last year but the haven't seemed to miss a beat.

Blooming Bergenia
I came upon blooming bergenia in my garden today. Looks like it has been blooming awhile too. It is under a tree that fell last fall... a really big tree that fell. Miles was cutting it up yesterday and hauling it away when he uncovered these.
Delighted!
Trillium undulatum |
Oh yes, trillium! Kelly and I discovered this in the woods behind our house today. We've been keeping an eye on the lady slippers, waiting for them to bloom - finding this today was a total surprise. We scoured the area and couldn't find any more. I guess we'll have to wait another 7 years to see this one bloom. (OK, I admit, there is some benefit to Kelly sweeping the forest floor :)

One of a kind
Somehow I have one tulip that looks like this among a patch of similar ones that are red-and-white and yellow-and-white. Did I propogate a new kind? haha (yesterday's photo)

Puchella Eastern Star
Planted in 2010, this is the first time I have seen a bloom. All the mini botanical tulips are open here now.

Judy's Front Garden
Had to use my phone to get this one but daffodils and the flowering plum are both open in the front garden at Judy's place.

Website Images
Tomorrow I am going to experiment with bead images for the website. I will post my picks on flickr so you can give me your thoughts. I will email you when I have them up.
Yellow and white tulip
At the same time I bought these, I also bought red and white ones that looked the same and planted them all together. But the red and white ones are taller and there's not much overlap in the bloom time. Somehow I now have one tulip that's a combo of red, yellow and white and I'll post a pic of that soon as it opens. (yesterday's photo again)

Friday's Moment
I swear I am going to get better at this timing thing again! This was the first bloom of the season that I totally missed. It was a single crocus about a mile from the house, in the furthest garden bed. By the time I saw it, it was this little dried up thing that a dog has clearly stepped on!
More blooms...
The tarda are opening and if you were to judge my reliability by this blog, I would come out looking bad.... so don't! lol!
This is yesterday's image that I forgot to post before I fell asleep!
Basket-of-gold
Aurinia saxatilis |
This is so bright you can spot it soon as you come around the corner. The rock garden is starting to colour up nicely! (yesterday's moment)

Second Bloom of the Season
Tulip 'Chopin', blooming today. I missed the lone Crocus bloom about a mile from the house. Going to post a dried up picture of it on sleepy hollow.
