Plan B

It poured rain most of the day today but I have a plane to catch tomorrow so I finally resorted to Plan B. Behold the potted up Dahlia :)

Yellow Dutch Iris

This is just starting to open but I wanted to grab a pic because we're due for rain.  This is the only yellow one of the Dutch iris that bloomed but it's nice to know there may be more next year.

Fallen Nest

Nicholas found this on the ground at the three sisters. It must have fallen down in the storm the night we lost the tree. It's perfect. The middle is a flawless little cylinder and the really cool thing is that they used Suzys' molt hair to line the inside so it is a tiny downy bed. The whole inside has a layer of her hair woven into shape. Too bad they have to start over but there is lots of molt hair around out there to do it with at least.

Big Bright Yellow

I have a big patch of this heliopsis out by the road that is starting to burst into bloom.

Wild Things

Found a bunch of this blooming along the private road. Might be some variety of vetch but it doesn't smell and vetch usually smells really good. Seems to open bright and then fades to pale and it is a climbing vine. Quite pretty really and once I spotted it, I couldn't seem to stop spotting it. Before I found it, I thought this was the prettiest wild thing blooming out there today.  

Hall's Honeysuckle

This is one of those plants that I read about in a magazine, went searching for, and actually found.  It's a honeysuckle that prefers shade.  The flowers are white, cream and pale yellow.  This year it has filled out nicely and the blooms are all over it.

Peony One Times Two?

Or maybe times three. I go through this every year. I just can't decide if all three of the peony in the Bird Sanctuary are the same. Some days I think they are and some days I think all three are different! Today they look all the same so I think I'll go with that. 

Anticipation

Thought for sure I'd see one of these orange asiatics open today but they're keeping me in suspense.

Little House Blooms

This is the tiny pink Columbine bloom at the Little House. One of the last few blooms actually. I took a bottom shot too but I had to get right on the ground to do it and it was wet! When we first moved here, there was one of these in front of the Little House. Now there are eleven. Time to move a couple and see if they will grow in my garden :)

The Reds are Starting

OK so maybe this is a little bright for the backyard.

The Front Deck

MoeMoe with Solomon in the background. I put these chairs here last week and there have been cats sleeping on them ever since. Sometimes, MoeMoe and Solomon have to share so Francis or Hannah can have the other. MoeMoe doesn't care though. She is always in relentless pursuit of him, often ending up halfway up his butt when he stops !

Not Cuddly

This is Cuddles and he belongs next door.  He is usually on a leash but gets loose a lot.  He is far from cuddly.  Here he was growling at me - in my own garden.  The nerve!

Peony Are Opening

This is what I am calling Peony One (top view). So far, there is also a Peony Two but I expect by the time the Peony are done, I will be up to Peony Four or Five. One and Two grow together with a third, which I think is a duplicate of one of these but can never really remember, in the bird sanctuary top level. They smell wonderful.

Land of Little Sky

Hard to take a picture on our property without getting trees.  The whispy cirrus clouds at the bottom looked like a dolphin till I ran to grab the camera, so you have to use your imagination.

Ninebark 'Center Glow'

For such a tiny thing, it survived the winter wonderfully. This year it should get some size. It is in the sun garden toward the field from the furthest 'John Cabot' Rose so very bright, dark pink blooming in front of it today.

Today is Yellow

After telling you I didn't have any other lilies blooming, I went outside and found this.  This is the very first lily I ever bought and was supposed to be white.  It's some kind of dwarf asiatic, and only a foot or so tall, so it's easy to miss.  I have 2 patches of these now and one is hiding behind your orange lilies.  The first of the Stella de Oro daylilies started to bloom today too.  Nice to see some yellow!

Dropmore Opens

Botanus catalogue arrived today. They have a new 'Orange Angelique' that is already on my list of top five I might want to order and I noticed their 'Happy Generation' are on sale.

Rain, Rain, and more Rain

It's been raining hard off and on all day.  At least everything under the trees will finally get watered.  Too wet to go out so I took this pic from the front window.  This is my ring garden on the other side of the driveway.  The water often fills up around the centre 'island' and overflows.  Here it's about halfway full.

Garden Friend

We don't know why this metal thing ever got put on a tree but the squirrel has a wonderful garden view from here.  (And yes, I had to use the zoom to get this :)
