Galley Red

Not the greatest pic but here is the first flower along with an aphid, much to my disgust. There are lots of other buds and I think I have sent the aphids on their way. Keeping my fingers crossed anyway.

New and old

Shopping spree! I got all these for $5/ea. I've had delosperma (aka iceplant) before but it only survived one winter in my rock garden. This time I'll put it somewhere else and give it some winter protection. I've also tried a pink hibiscus in the back garden before with no luck so we're trying again. The heucherella is stunning - the picture doesn't do it justice. A cross between coral bells and tiarella with pale pink flowers.

Lily Location

You know, the easiest part is buying them. The hardest is trying to keep them alive in pots until I finally figure out where to plant them! I moved that small patch of dwarf iris closer to the rock edge, got rid of the lamium and dead tulip leavings and plopped all three of these together in this spot. This is at the front of the boardwalk, the dogwood there is above these lily. Usually I plant annuals in this spot but I am really trying to get away from using annuals, other than in pots. These are short lily so they should work here and eventhough this spot is full of colour in the spring, it really needed something for summer besides viola.

Hot Papaya

I did a tour of the garden centres today looking for bargains. This is one of them - echinacea 'Hot Papaya'. I also bought 2 gaillardia, a Siberian iris and 2 papyrus.

Look What I Got!

Nyla is getting rid of two of her garden beds while she is on vacation. I did some digging for her :)

I got this lady slipper, which I have already planted, a black columbine, several strawberry, three centaura and a flowering pink bleeding heart. Good day in my garden.

And... the Japanese Painted Fern is coming up !!
