Blooming on the Ground

Other than the fact that they're about 5 feet lower than they should be, they've been blooming like crazy since Earl knocked them down.

Mystery Glad

Now I'm puzzled.  I remembered this as purple with white markings.  Instead it's fushia or even dark pink with no markings.  It's been chewed on from lying on the ground and really should be in the ring garden next year.  I have 5 like this but the rest are buried under Snow Fairy.  I'm going to have to go back through old photos and such and solve this mystery over the winter.

Mass of Purple

My aster may not be as compact and uniform as it would be if I'd pinched it, but I kind of like it like this - a big bush with beautiful flowers that move around in the wind.  Earl mussed her up a bit but she's still blooming like crazy.

A Survivor

It survived the storm and opened this morning - name is Home Coming.  I'm impressed... haven't had any mostly white glads before.

Tree Sedum

Whirling Butterflies

Finally they are whirling!  They are sort of jammed between the mallow and the blue lobelia but the pink/white/blue combo looks kind of cool.

Pretty Nora Leigh

This is the tall variegated phlox that compliments my Snow Fairy so nicely.  I was getting itchy to take a picture of it.  The colour of the buds is deceiving.  One more phlox left to make an appearance.

A La Fresco

This is just starting to bloom behind the Snow Fairy.  Definitely another one of my favourites.  These flowers will bloom all the way up tall stalks.

Green and Purple

There may have been prettier flowers today but this was by far the best picture.

Last of the Lilies

Opus One popped open today in the back garden.  I can't really see any difference between this and Casablanca - can you?  They're both wonderful!

Silvery Pink

This always reminds me of pale pink nail polish.  I had one before and it didn't come back.  Four years later I'm trying again.

Definitely Nicky

I guess this is why the pictures are misleading.  This really is this, a day later and out of the sun.

Jumping the Gun

It hasn't quite bloomed but I'm thrilled with the colour.  The problem is that I don't know what it is.  I mean, I know it's a phlox, but it's not Peppermint Twist.
It all started last summer when we had small shoots of 4 different phlox growing in pots: Peppermint Twist, Watermelon, Danielle and Starfire.  In the fall, we were finding places to plant them.  One of them didn't survive to get planted - I thought it was Starfire.  We also moved Nicki phlox from the front at the same time (which hadn't bloomed up to that point).
I'm beginning to think the problem happened with the popsicle sticks... and perhaps a little with my memory.  Could this possibly be Nicki?  Does that mean that what was supposed to be Nicki, and I thought was Orange Perfection, is actually Starfire?  Or... could what I thought was Watermelon be Starfire, and what I thought was Nicki be Watermelon?
And more importantly, how much hope do I have of keeping track of 27 dahlia this summer all marked with popsicle sticks?!

In the Pink

These draw my eye every time I walk out the back door.

Laura in the Morning

Now I realize why I was having such a hard time taking a picture of Laura, my favourite phlox - she changes colour.  With the cooler temperatures, she turns blue.  In the hot sun, she's magenta.  In the fall, she will be a darker purple.

Split Ends

The papyrus is getting quite tall and there are lots of new shoots too.  I sure hope I can find this again next year.

I don't know what this is...

but it sure is pretty.  These were supposed to be red asiatics according to the package.  The flowers are small for orientals but there will be lots and they smell heavenly.

Mojave - My Fav

Is this not one of the most beautiful lilies?  Unfortunately they're not very vigorous and the agastache got bigger than they did first.

Pink Hen Blooming

You saw the red starting to bloom when you were here, so I want to show you this pink one too.  This is the 'dragon head' one.
The red one has now turned into a little tree.
